Desde el año 1997 vivo más tiempo en Noruega que en ningún otro lado. De hecho, soy residente noruego, mis impuestos, por lo tanto, también son noruegos… Vivir tanto tiempo aquí me ha dado la oportunidad de aficionarme a una clase de vida dominada por los grandes espacios. Desde que comenzó mi pasión por las travesías polares, he vuelto a las montañas en contadas ocasiones y siempre intentando que al menos fueran montañas remotas o poco conocidas. Travesías polares “diferentes” y montañas remotas no facilitan mucho los “exitos”, pero me llena de felicidad estar en esos lugares.
Alguien escribió en el blog que nuestros viajes le habían obligado a desempolvar los viejos mapas, todo un halago. Es sabido que existen docenas de lugares que esperan una primera visita, lugares que, al pronunciarse, te llenan de incertidumbre. Esos lugares pueblan día y noche mi fantasía .Y muchos de ellos están en Noruega.
Admiro las expediciones clásicas noruegas, sus planteamientos, filosofía y el espiritu de los exploradores noruegos , no sólo el de los antiguos sino también el de los actuales y quizás porque han sido y siguen siendo expertos en exploración polar, son expertos también en materiales para este tipo de aventuras. Desde que vivo en Noruega he podido comprobar la calidad de los materiales de expedición noruegos, muchos de los cuales rozan la excelencia.
Como sabéis, parte de la ropa nos ha sido generosamente cedida por dos empresas noruegas, Devold y Bergans, y aunque tener un sponsor obliga moralmente, éste no es nuestro caso. Ya teníamos elegida la ropa y ha sido fantástico que nos la facilitaran; nunca habríamos ido sin ella porque consideramos que, simplemente , es la mejor. En aventuras de menor exposición otros materiales podrían ser válidos, sin duda, pero no en ésta.
Para ese intento de Svalbard 2009 hemos llevado también otros materiales noruegos (tienda, botas, liofilizados…)
Este es el material que hemos llevado a Svalbard:
Interiores: de DEVOLD, lana merina, sencillamente impresionante. Muy ligera, muy cómoda y muy caliente.
Exteriores: sobre la lana merina , llevábamos un forro polar, pantalones y chaqueta de “Dermizax” (un tejido mejor que el goretex) y una chaqueta de plumas. Todo de BERGANS.
Sacos de fibra .NO de plumas, dos sacos por persona. Un interior gordo y un exterior que estaba siempre congelado y servia de “coraza”.
Tienda polar (noruega) con faldones
Esquies de Back country, fijaciones de telemark, botas de cuero. Yo no utilicé el botín interior de mi bota sino un calcetín de lana Sami (Lapon) y calcetines gordos de lana Devold y puedo asegurar que tenía los pies calientes. Hilo tuvo problemas en pies porque su bota era justa de talla. Yo llevo un número más.
Gorro de Lana y otro de piel de foca.
Cocina: una cocina de gasolina que igual sirve para calentar a tope la tienda como para calentar la comida y derretir nieve. Comida liofilizada noruega a menudo con carne de reno y pure de patatas. Además, la comida que ya os detallamos en el apartado “dieta” de este blog.
Velas (no cometas). Esta vez apenas usamos pero llevamos velas de 14 m2. Son alemanas, las mejores y se hacen por encargo.
Todo el material lo transportamos en dos pulkas de 350 l capacidad
Creo que la elección del material fue casi perfecta. Deberíamos mejorar la dieta y pulir quizá algunos detalles menores en el futuro
Lo que sin duda deberíamos añadir al equipo para la próxima es un perro nórdico que no sólo nos ayudaría en el tiro de la carga sino que nos evitaría poner la cerca antiosos cada día. La cerca supone mucho tiempo de montaje y desmontaje, expuestos al mal tiempo frecuentemente no funcionan bien. Un perro nórdico nos proporcionaría, además de compañía, más tiempo de descanso y mayor tranquilidad.
