Seguramente todos conoceis lo que es SVALBARD GLOBAL SEED VAULT, que en España se ha traducido como ARCA NOE DE SEMILLAS.Como sabéis ha sido durante muchos años un gran proyecto, ahora hecho realidad, inaugurado en 2008. Era el sueño de la FAO, una utopía hace años y que hoy ya existe. Debería suponer la garantia de que en el futuro haya alimentos en el mundo a pesar de los errores humanos, los intereses políticos y económicos, las catástrofes naturales,los conflictos armados o las consecuencias del cambio climático.
La Bodega Global de Semillas es una gran despensa mundial de semillas y el lugar elegido por su protección del medio ambiente,por su situación alejada de conflictos,por ser uno de los lugares más tranquilos y pacíficos del planeta y por sus carácterísticas geográficas y geológicas ha sido SVALBARD.
Las sesmillas serán siempre propiedad del pais depositante, que debe tener una muestra igual en los bancos propios.Un pais solo podrá sacar sus semillas de alli en caso de que por algun motivo las semillas de sus bancos originales se hubiesen perdido.El almacenamiento es casi gratuito puesto que los paises depositantes pagan 1 dolar por muestra enviada.
