The Team

José Mijares has been a globe-trotter during the most part of his 40 years, for working reasons (he started as tour guide) and as a hobby. He has travelled a good part of the planet walking, cycling, skiing, sailing, etc. Nevertheless, despite seeing so many places to compare, he is still a Polar Regions enthusiast, so much so that he has changed his home town, Palencia, for Cape North, in Norway where he lives nine months a year.
High level rock-climber and mountaineer, he has made a good number of expeditions mainly in The Andes reaching the top of different summits from the Chimborazo to the Aconcagua, but also in USA (he has twice reached the top of the McKinley), New Zealand, Europe and Africa. He has been in the summits of five of the so called Seven Summits (the highest peaks in every continent). His sport record also gathers more than 2.000 km of ice crossings, among others, several in Lapland, crossing Greenland, and crossing the Baltic Sea in winter, when it is frozen.
When in November 2007 he started the N-S crossing of the Ice Camp North (part of his actual project) he already knew the ground, because a year before he crossed this glazier mass from east to west, then forming team with José Antonio Fernández Segura.

Hilo Moreno is, despite of his youth (he is 28 year old), a rock-climber with more than 10 year experience. He has qualifications as Sport Trainer in the specialties of Mountaineering and climb and Rappelling. He has completed a good number of climbs in Spain, North of Arfica, Alps and Andes – where he reached the top of several of the highest mountains of Ecuador, Peru and Chile. He is also an expert climber in vertical ice and mountain skier.
His beginning as guide took place in Greenland, exactly the scenario of one of the stages of the actual project. Since then he has helped clients and friends in peaks, climbing ways, ski crossings and canyons of a few mountain range. Nevertheless, his most loved work was done last year in the Naranjo de Bulnes.
After months of personal and specific training, Hilo and other guides of the k2extrem company help a few people with physical challenges to reach the summit of this limestone mass, true symbol of the PIcos de Europa and an essential challenge to any climber. Specifically, Hilo and Oscar Morales guided and helped Luis Bullido, a visually challenged climber.
