1ª Etapa. Acercamiento a 80ºnorte. Svalbard o Spitzbergen?

Salida 07.45h desde “Lonchas” (Longyearbyen) hasta 80ºnorte. 11 horas de viaje. 2 motonieves+1 motonieve apoyo para material. Sol y mucho viento.Temperatura: -34 grados. Etapa: Longyearbyen- Fretheim-Pyramiden-monte Newton-Verlegenhuken.
El viaje debía comenzar N-S y no a la inversa por cuestiones de luz, temperatura y posibles vientos pero para esto precisaban de una costosa infraestructura de traslados en motonieve. Lo han podido hacer gracias al apoyo de VISITNORWAY.ES que, entre otros muchas ayudas logísticas, se han ocupado de trasladarles hasta el punto de origen.

Svalbard es un archipiélago situado entre Océano Artico, mar de Noruega, mar de Barents y mar de Groenlandia, entre 74º-81ºnorte y 10º-35ºeste. Lo componen 10 islas mayores y algunas menores pero sólo tres de las grandes están habitadas. La mayor de las islas se llama SPITZBERGEN, que aun hoy se confunde con el nombre del archipiélago.
La isla de Spitzbergen tiene 39.044 km2 mientras que la totalidad del archipélago de Svalbard se extiende por 61.022 km2.El 60 por ciento del territorio está cubierto de hielo.
Svalbard significa “orilla fria” y Spitzbergen podría traducirse “picos escarpados”.

Esta expedición trata de recorrer N-S la isla de Spitzbergen, la mayor de Svalbard.
Como no tendremos sus fotos o videos hasta el final del viaje, os iremos mostrando el destino -si no os importa- a través de fotos o videos de otros.
